Former Indian World Cup-winning cricketer Gautam Gambhir often finds himself in the headlines for some or other controversial reasons. The opening batter's temperament issue and nature to give it back on the spot has often landed him in hot waters.

Gautam Gambhir flipped his finger towards the crowd during an Asia Cup match held earlier this year in one such controversial and bizarre incident.

The cricketer-turned-politician was a part of the commentary panel, and whilst exiting the field, he turned towards the crowd and flipped his middle finger. The particular section of the crowd in question was apparently booing Gautam Gambhir with notorious slogans.

While the true nature of the slogans is yet unknown, Gambhir says those were anti-national slogans.

Gambhir Clarifies Controversial Middel Finger Incident

Months later, the former cricketer issued a clarification and accepted his mistake. He added that each person's mindset of dealing with a situation is different, and thus, every individual reacts to circumstances differently.

"If  I am going there and some fans point out and say 'Hindustan Murdabad' and they were told once by the security to not do it...in the heat of the moment, I accept I made a wrong gesture and sometimes when you hear these things you react," Gambhir said.

Gambhir's nature is impulsive, and thus, he chooses to react on the spot. While his gestures were wrong, the batter claimed innocence, stating he wouldn't deal with anti-national slogans under any circumstances. He is patriotic and cannot stand wrongful statements against his own country.

"Everyone reacts differently; everyone has a different mindset. If someone doesn't want to listen then you react and I am accepting that I shouldn't have made that gesture," he added.

That being said, controversies won't leave Gautam Gambhir alone anytime soon. He recently got into a tussle with former Indian cricketer Sreesanth after the duo locked horns during a Legends League cricket game.

Gambhir allegedly dug into Sreesanth's past and called him a "fixer." That irked the pacer, as he called him out on his Instagram channel.

After the entire incident gained momentum and caught the public eye, Legends League Cricket organisers were forced to take action. An investigation committee has been appointed to conduct a thorough survey, and Sreesanth has also been issued a legal notice over his social media outburst.
