On Thursday, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah emphasized the importance of proving one's fitness in domestic cricket to get reinstated to the Indian cricket team in a press conference.

While talking about this 'pre-requisite,' he revealed how he called Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja when he had suffered a knee injury in 2022 and asked him to play a domestic game. Back then, Jadeja played Ranji Trophy matches before making a return to the Rohit Sharma-led side.

He further elaborated on the process, emphasizing that it's 'certain' that any player who gets injured and leaves the team can only return after proving his fitness in domestic cricket.

Jay Shah's "Strictness" Towards Ravindra Jadeja

"We have been a little strict, when Jadeja got injured, I was the one who called him & asked him to play a domestic game, it's certain now, whoever gets injured & goes out - can only come into the Indian team after proving his fitness in domestic cricket".

Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Ishan Kishan and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer have been out of the Indian side for quite some time now. It has been revealed that the two will play domestic cricket to make a comeback to Team India.

Ishan Kishan will be making his return in the Buchi Babu tournament, leading Jharkhand, and also participating in Duleep Trophy 2024. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer will be playing and leading Team D in the Duleep Trophy 2024.
