The Champions Trophy 2025 is around the corner and the focus has now shifted to the 50-over format for the Men In Blue. The ODI series against England would act as a good preparation platform for the event, and though Bumrah could be rested for that series, he is likely to be India's vice-captain for Champions Trophy.
According to a report by Times of India, Jasprit Bumrah will be Rohit's deputy in Champions Trophy 2025, if he is completely fit for the event. It means that Shubman Gill will be demoted from his role of vice-captain which he was handed during the Sri Lanka series where India lost by 0-2 margin.
Jasprit Bumrah To Get Rewarded For Performance In BGT
Bumrah has gone up the pecking order in recent times due to his consistent performances and impressive captaincy in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He led India in their only win in the series and also captained in the final Test when Rohit Sharma opted out.
There are speculations that Jasprit Bumrah will be India's next Test captain and if he is promoted as vice-captain of the ODI side, he could lead the men in blue in ODI format soon.
Earlier, Hardik Pandya was touted as Rohit Sharma's successor in white-ball formats, but has fallen down the leadership pecking order due to his fitness concerns. India have only three ODIs before Champions Trophy 2025 and would play all their matches of the event in U.A.E while other teams would be playing in Pakistan.
The tournament is returning after the gap of eight years and India are the runners-up of the last edition when they lost to Pakistan in the final under the leadership of Virat Kohli.
