Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss India’s series-deciding fifth Test match against England at The Oval in London. A day prior to the high-octane clash, a report confirmed that the legendary Indian speedster has been advised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team to take a rest in a bid to safeguard his back.
Bumrah also missed the second Test of the series at Edgbaston in Birmingham earlier this month, which Team India went on to win by a record margin of 336 runs to level the series.
Akash Deep Likely Replacement For Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah has been once again rested from the Indian team, this time for the upcoming fifth Test match against England in London as part of the speedster’s workload management, as confirmed by ESPNCricinfo.
While Bumrah last bowled on July 26, i.e., in the earlier part of Day 4 of the Old Trafford Test, the cricketer bowled 33 overs throughout the match to reach nearly a workload of 120 overs so far in the five-match series.
Fellow pacer Akash Deep, who missed the fourth Test in Manchester owing to a groin injury, will likely replace Jasprit Bumrah in the impending series decider. Deep also filled in for Bumrah in Birmingham back between July 2 and July 6 as a replacement, and celebrated the occasion with a match-winning ten-wicket haul in his comeback match.
However, Akash Deep struggled in the subsequent match at Lord’s where he managed to pick just a solitary wicket across both English innings while conceding 122 runs.
Trailing 1-2 in the series, Team India will now face England at The Oval from July 31 onwards. Shubman Gill and co. need to win the match in a bid to level the series.
