In a phenomenal achievement, ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah became India's most successful Test bowler in England. He attained the landmark on day 4 of the ongoing third Test against the hosts at Old Trafford, Manchester.
Bumrah Records Joint-Most Wickets For India In England
Jasprit Bumrah had a rare off day in the Manchester Test as he conceded more than 100 runs for the first time in an innings in the format. However, during his spell, he managed to add another feather to his decorated crown, becoming India's joint highest wicket-taker on English soil.
Despite conceding 112 runs in his 33 overs, Bumrah managed crucial wickets of Jamie Smith and Liam Dawson in England's first innings. These scalps helped him join Ishant Sharma at the top of the list, including India's most successful Test bowlers in England.
Most Test Wickets For India In England
- Jasprit Bumrah - 51* wickets in 12 matches
- Ishant Sharma - 51 wickets in 15 matches
- Kapil Dev - 43 wickets in 13 matches
- Mohammed Shami - 42 wickets in 14 matches
- Mohammed Siraj - 37 wickets in 10 matches
As mentioned above, Bumrah currently holds the record for the most Test wickets (51) in England alongside Ishant Sharma. The legendary Kapil Dev is placed third with 43 scalps, followed by Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj.
Bumrah's outing at Old Trafford was well below the benchmark he has set for himself in Test cricket. While he barely breached the 140 KPH mark, the fast bowler was effectively neutralised by the English batters.
Also, given he suffered an ankle injury scare, it won't be surprising if the Indian team management decides to rest him for the final game at Kennington Oval. If it happens, Bumrah might have to wait for another England tour to formally go past Ishant on the elusive list.
