On Monday, October 7, the first Test of a three-match series between Pakistan and England commenced at the Multan Cricket Ground. It is a crucial series for both teams as they are still eyeing a place in the WTC finals.

At present, England, who won their last two Test series, are placed fourth on the WTC table, while Pakistan are ninth only above the Windies. Talking about the ongoing crucial series, James Anderson, who recently joined the Three Lions as a bowling consultant, is yet to arrive in Pakistan as the England seamer has preferred to participate in a golf tournament.

James Anderson Features In Golf Tournament

Currently, Anderson is featuring in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, a pro-am golf tournament in Scotland. As a result, he was not part of England's pre-series preparations and also the first day of play. Further, Anderson won't be able to join the side before October 8.

Meanwhile, England head coach Brendon McCullum has defended Anderson's decision and stated that the England legend is giving his input virtually.

McCullum Defends Shan Masood

“Two months ago, you guys said he didn’t deserve to be the coach. Now we are missing him. That’s an affirmation of how good an impact Jimmy Anderson has made in the short period [during] his transition from player to coach. We live in a world where you can still communicate without being face-to-face," said McCullum speaking to Sky Sports.

“The challenges and demands of the international cricket calendar mean you need to get out and enjoy yourself as well. If he were at home with his family, I question whether anyone would have problems with it,” McCullum added.

Talking about the match, Pakistan are going well and are 154/1 after 34 overs. Skipper Shan Masood scored a century, while Abdullah Shafique has scripted a fifty.
