India's participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to take place in Pakistan next February and March, remains uncertain, pending approval from the Indian government. However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is optimistic that India will travel across the border for the prestigious tournament.
The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled for February 19, with matches planned in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. Pakistan is leaving no stone unturned to prepare for the event, and refurbishing work is already underway at the Gaddafi Stadium to ensure it meets ICC standards.
Mohsin Naqvi Confident India Will Participate In Champions Trophy 2025
In the latest development, during a recent media briefing at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Naqvi expressed confidence that all eight participating teams, including India, will be present for the tournament's return to the ICC calendar.
Speaking to reporters, Naqvi emphasized the significance of hosting an ICC event on Pakistani soil for the first time in over two decades.
"I have full hope that the Indian team will come to play the Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year. There have been no indications to suggest that they would postpone or cancel their visit. All teams are expected to participate," he stated.
While political relations between India and Pakistan remain tense, the PCB Chairman is hopeful for India's participation, which would mark their first trip to Pakistan since 2008.
It is important to note that, given the political sensitivities and security concerns involved, India's presence will ultimately depend on approval from their government. The PCB chairman believes, however, that cricket could play a role in bridging the gap between the two nations.
"The Champions Trophy is a big opportunity for Pakistan cricket, and we are looking forward to welcoming teams from all around the world," Naqvi noted.
The PCB chairman was also asked about the possibility of meeting BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, should he visit Pakistan. Naqvi hinted that he would welcome any opportunity to engage with Shah to discuss.
As Pakistan continues its preparations for the tournament, hopes remain high for a successful event that brings international cricket back to the country in a big way.
