Jalaj Saxena, the veteran all-rounder, has joined Maharashtra after ending his long association with the finalists of the 2024-25 Rajni season, Kerala. The 38-year-old cricketer played nine seasons for Kerala and was instrumental in their rise in stature at the domestic level.

Jalaj Saxena Gets Ready For New Journey With Maharashtra

Jalaj Saxena made his debut way back in the 2005-06 season for Madhya Pradesh. He shifted to Kerala in the 2016-17 season and now has made another shift in what is expected to be the last phase of his career.

The MCA welcomed Jalaj Saxena to the state team and applauded him for his immense contribution to domestic cricket over the years.

“Jalaj Saxena is one of India’s most accomplished and versatile all-rounders in domestic cricket. His career is distinguished by outstanding performances across all formats, earning widespread recognition from cricket experts and analysts,” the Maharashtra Cricket Association said.

The MCA statement also made it clear that they are looking at Jalaj Saxena not only as a plater but as a senior statesman who can mentor younger players in the team.

“His strengths extend beyond just batting and bowling. Saxena’s deep understanding of the game, tactical acumen, ability to perform under pressure, and his willingness to mentor younger players make him an invaluable asset to the Maharashtra squad,” it added.

Jalaj Saxena has scored 7060 runs in 150 first-class matches with 14 hundreds and with the ball, he has 484 wickets to his name as well. He has been an useful cricketer in the white-ball format as well and was part of the four franchises in IPL. The cricketer, though, could play only an IPL game in his career, but has continued to deliver consistently in domestic cricket.

Jalaj Saxena Shares His Views On New Joining

The veteran all-rounder also shared his happiness at joining Maharashtra Cricket and promised to contribute his best for the betterment of the team.

"It is a matter of great pride for me to join the Maharashtra cricket team. Maharashtra cricket has a rich legacy, and I am fully prepared to contribute my best for the team,” he said.

The cricketer is the second big signing from Maharashtra after Prithvi Shaw and is all set to play alongside the likes of Gaikwad and Ankit Bawne.

“It is an honour to play alongside players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prithvi Shaw, and Ankit Bawne, as well as many talented newcomers. The Maharashtra Premier League is an excellent platform that helps upcoming players showcase their talent,” Saxena added.

Maharashtra had a poor Ranji season last year, where they could win just two out of their seven matches, and would be hoping to turn things around with some new additions this season.
