Building on this injury scare, in a recent development, Matthew Short has been officially ruled out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) X 2025. Short was part of the Islamabad United squad, but the lingering effects of his quad injury sustained during the Champions Trophy have prevented him from participating in the tournament. 

As per details, Matt Short has pulled out from the tournament. The $220K buy for Islamabad is a fiery T20 batter who shone in BBL 14 and would have been promising in the PSL arena.

Explosive Short's PSL Dream Ends With Lingering Injury

Matthew Short has been battling injury concerns since the Champions Trophy 2025, where he suffered a quad injury during Australia’s match against Afghanistan. Despite opening the batting alongside Travis Head, Short was visibly struggling between the wickets and was limited in his movement. 

The injury forced him to retire hurt after scoring 20 off 15 balls, and Australia’s captain Steven Smith confirmed that Short was unlikely to recover in time for the semi-final, casting doubts over his immediate playing future.

This is a significant blow for Islamabad United, who had counted on Short’s abilities to strengthen their batting and provide depth in their batting lineup.

Short's T20 Career

Matthew Short’s T20 career has been marked by his aggressive batting and useful bowling. With a T20 strike rate close to 150 and several impactful innings across leagues like the Big Bash and IPL, Short has proven to be a valuable asset in the shortest format. 

He has played 6 IPL matches, scoring 117 runs at an average of 19.50 and a strike rate of 127.17, while also contributing with the ball when needed. His dynamic style and experience would have been a key addition to Islamabad United’s lineup.

Islamabad United Stands Strong On The Points Table

Islamabad United’s campaign in PSL X so far has been impressive. Led by captain Shadab Khan, Islamabad United has managed to win 3 out of their 3 games and leads the points table. 

The team will look to continue their strong run and compensate for Short’s absence by relying on their core players and strategic game plans to push towards the playoffs and beyond.
