'Is He Going To Be As Good As Jasprit Bumrah?'-Matthew Hayden on Mohammed Shami

The legendary Australia batter Matthew Hayden expressed his doubts regarding senior pacer Mohammed Shami's impact on Australian pitches asking if he will be as effective as India's frontline pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

It is pertinent to mention here that the veteran pacer Mohammed Shami failed to make the cut to the India T20I World Cup squad but he will travel to Australia as a standby.

The Uttar Pradesh pacer has not played any T20Is for India since the World Cup in the UAE in November 2021. However, after the team's disastrous showing in Asia Cup 2022, he has been recalled to the team for the South Africa and Australia T20I series.

While answering a question in the press conference arranged by Star Sports Network on whether Mohammed Shami should have been a part of India's World Cup squad, Matthew Hayden conceded:

"When you look at someone like Shami, has he got any extra surprises that Australian cricket don't know about or haven't seen before? Yes, he is a brilliant cricketer and he has the ability to take wickets. But is he going to be as good as someone like Jasprit Bumrah? And I think it is too easy to think about the glass being half-full but you must back yourself."

"That is one thing that is happening around the Australian cricket team regarding Aaron Finch. It is all about that squad, when you cross that line, thinking we have got this. This is our team, we are certain about it."

Ahead of the upcoming T20I World Cup in October-November, team India will be hosting Australia in a three-match T20I series, beginning Tuesday (September 20) in Mohali.

Since Arshdeep Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya will be reporting to the NCA for conditioning-related work and will miss the home series against Australia, it will be intriguing to see if India goes in with Mohammed Shami against the Men in Yellow or they will persist with their experimentation process.
