The IPL 2024 is up and running in style, and the competition is getting intense with each passing game. Amidst this cricketing carnival, the BCCI has planned an owners meet on April 16 to discuss some important issues, ranging from salary cap to player retentions.

This is the last year of the three-year cycle and before the 2025 IPL, there will be a mega auction which has always been a matter of big debate. In the last mega auction, four players were allowed to be retained but this time around, some franchises are demanding more retentions.

According to Cricbuzz, there are also suggestions that the number of retentions should be as high as 8 as some franchises feel that it is important to maintain their brand value. Loyalty is another important factor and with increase in retentions, it would help franchises maintain that core.

Also, there is likely to be discussion around Right to Match card which was not there in the 2022 mega-auction but was part of auction dynamics.

Salary cap is likely to increase for the next mega-auction with huge boost in central revenue share of franchises after BCCI's big-money deal of INR 48, 390 Crore. The salary cap was INR 100 Crore in the last mini-auction and the meeting is surely a crucial one in determining the future course of the biggest T20 league in the world.
