Pace bowler Sandeep Sharma was recently spotted at the Rajasthan Royals camp in Jaipur ahead of IPL 2023. If reports are to be believed, Sharma has been roped in as a replacement for injured Prasidh Krishna.

Krishna, who was last seen playing professional cricket in August 2022, was ruled out of IPL 2023 to recover from a stress fracture in his back. He picked up 19 wickets in 17 games for the Royals last year, and was also fourth on the list of MVPs after Jos Buttler, Hardik Pandya, and Andre Russell.

Sharma, who represented Punjab Kings the previous season, went unsold at the IPL 2023 mini-auction in December. In 104 IPL games, he has picked up 114 wickets at an average of 26.33, including the best bowling figure of 4/20 against Delhi Daredevils in 2017. Earlier, it was reported that Mumbai Indians were also interested in looping in Sharma as a replacement for the injured Jasprit Bumrah.

Not just the Royals, but other franchises have also been hit by injuries. The Mumbai Indians have lost Jasprit Bumrah and Australian quick Jhye Richardson to injuries. Chennai Super Kings have picked Sisanda Magala as a replacement for Kyle Jamieson while Royal Challengers Bangalore have named New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell as a replacement for injured Will Jacks.

IPL 2023 will get underway on March 31 with the opening game between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. Royals, meanwhile, will play their first game on April 2 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
