Pat Cummins shattered numerous records at the IPL 2024 auction as he was roped in by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a staggering sum of Rs.20.5 crores. The Australian speedster briefly became the most expensive purchase in IPL history before he was usurped by national teammate Mitchell Starc roughly an hour and a half later at the same bidding event.

Interestingly, Cummins' IPL 2024 price tag is even valued higher than the retention worth of Indian cricket veterans Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah.

Chopra compares Pat Cummins' value with Indian stars

Indian cricket commentator Aakash Chopra has expressed his surprise over Pat Cummins being valued higher than RCB zealot Virat Kohli and Mumbai Indians legends Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah for the IPL 2024 season.

The former KKR star took to X (formerly Twitter) and compared Cummins' price tag with the Indian trio shortly after the Australian fast bowler went big at the IPL 2024 auction.

The former KKR star took to X (formerly Twitter) and compared Cummins' price tag with that of the Indian trio shortly after the Australian fast bowler went big at the IPL 2024 auction.

Aakash Chopra tweeted,

“Can’t help but think that Bumrah is for 12Cr. Kohli 17Cr. Rohit 16Cr. And Pat Cummins is sold…for 20.5 Cr. #IPLAuction”

Pat Cummins became the first player in IPL history to breach the Rs.20 crore mark in an auction. Earlier this year, the cricketer led Australia to historic title triumphs at the 2023 WTC final and the 2023 World Cup final, both against a strong Indian team led by Rohit Sharma.

Cummins skipped this year's IPL 2023 season in order to prioritize national commitments after spending three editions of the tournament at the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp. Interestingly, the legendary fast bowler also broke the bank ahead of IPL 2020 by landing a hefty deal of Rs.15.5 crores for the KKR franchise.
