IPL Auction 2024 | MS Dhoni To Play Another Edition As CSK Releases Retention Players List

MS Dhoni is set to prolong his illustrious IPL career by another year, as he was retained by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise on IPL 2024 retention day. Dhoni, now aged 42, was last seen in action at the final of the IPL 2023 season where he led his CSK troops to their fifth title triumph in front of a near-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium crowd in Ahmedabad.

MS Dhoni set to play IPL 2024

Several fans and cricket experts speculated the IPL 2023 final to be MS Dhoni’s final appearance in competitive cricket. However, during the post-match presentation, the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman himself hinted at the possibility of reprising his role for one more year for the sake of his fans.

As it turns out, Dhoni will now indeed turn up for the CSK camp in the IPL 2024 season as he was retained by the franchise on retention day. The former Indian captain was among the 18 retentions made by the CSK management for the forthcoming 2024 event, while players like Ben Stokes and Kyle Jamieson were released by the franchise.


Apart from MS Dhoni, fellow CSK zealot Ravindra Jadeja was also retained for IPL 2024 alongside Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Deepak Chahar, Shivam Dube, Ruturaj Gaikwad among a number of star attractions.


Here is a look at a list of all 19 cricketers retained by CSK for IPL 2024 season:

MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali, Deepak Chahar, Devon Conway, Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajay Mandal, Mukesh Choudhary, Matheesha Pathirana, Ajinkya Rahane, Shaik Rasheed, Mitchell Santner, Simarjeet Singh, Nishant Sindhu, Prashant Solanki and Maheesh Theekshana.

After announcing their releases and retentions, the CSK franchise is now left with a purse of Rs.32.1 crore for the upcoming IPL 2024 auctions. The much-awaited bidding event will be taking place on December 19 in Dubai.
