According to emerging reports, the IPL franchises will be allowed to retain five players ahead of the mega auction. The IPL governing council has yet to make the much-awaited retention rules official. However, as reported by several media outlets, the franchises might be permitted five retentions while also receiving the luxury of using the Right To Match (RTM) card during the auction process.

The RTM was scrapped before the IPL 2022 mega auction to give two new teams—Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans—a wider pool of players to form their combinations. The remaining eight teams were allowed four retentions, with GT and LSG permitted to select their first three picks from the remaining players' pool.

RTM Likely To Return For IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Earlier, it was reported that the IPL governing council was against the RTM. However, fresh developments suggest otherwise, indicating its reimplementation in the 2025 mega auction. Therefore, besides retaining their five players, the ten participating teams will be able to add another core member to their setup while forming their combination for the marquee tournament.

If the IPL governing council approves five retentions and one RTM, it would be the highest number of retentions allowed in the history of the tournament. However, doubts still loom over the maximum number of Indians and overseas players that can be retained before the mega auction.

Team Purse To Be Increased To 115-120 Cr For IPL 2025 Mega Auction

The report also claims that the teams' purse for the mega auction will be increased to INR 115-120 Cr. If it happens, the franchises will be allowed to spend around 25-30 Crores more than they did last year.
