More than 1,000 cricketers have enlisted their names for the IPL 2025 mega auction event, slated to be organized in November in Saudi Arabia. However, there are only a limited slots to be filled between all the 10 competing franchises, who have already made some retention picks as per the announcement of October 31.
As franchises and fans brace themselves for the biggest IPL auction in recent memory, one can safely assume that certain capped Indian batters will gain much attention from all corners of the bidding event. Here, we take a look at five such Indian international players who are set to go under the hammer, at a specific base price of Rs.2 crores.
5. Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer became the first IPL winning captain in the history of the tournament to not get retained by the franchise the following year. On October 31, the 29-year-old was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise and the dashing Indian middle-order batter will now head into the IPL 2025 mega auction with a base price of Rs.2 crores. Notably, he earned a staggering sum of Rs.12.25 crores from KKR in each of the preceding three IPL seasons.
Nonetheless, the newfound tag of being an ‘IPL winning captain’ will surely bode well for Shreyas Iyer at the auction as he aims to write more success stories for himself in the future.
4. Venkatesh Iyer
KKR zealot Venkatesh Iyer was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction in late-October this year. Surprisingly, the lanky left-handed batter clattered 370 runs in 13 innings during KKR’s IPL 2024 winning campaign, with an astonishing average of 46.25 and a strike rate of nearly 160. Having won an IPL title for the KKR, Venkatesh will now enter the IPL 2025 mega auction fray with a base price of Rs.2 crores.
3. Ishan Kishan
After spending seven years with Mumbai Indians, blistering wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has now been released by the franchise in lieu of six-player retention policy of IPL 2025. The 26-year-old holds a prolific record with the bat for the Mumbai Indians, and his attacking mindset has yielded them much success over the years. A part of Mumbai Indians’ successive title-winning line-ups from 2019 and 2020, Ishan Kishan will now be aiming to write a fresh chapter in his IPL journey, as he bids to make his all-format international return for Team India in the process.
2. Devdutt Padikkal
Rising star Devdutt Padikkal has thrown his hat into the IPL 2025 mega auction with a base price of Rs.2 crores. After spending four quality batting seasons with RCB and Rajasthan Royals between IPL 2020 and IPL 2023, the charismatic top-order batter was traded into the Lucknow Super Giants group for IPL 2024 earlier this year. However, Padikkal failed to replicate his earlier IPL success for the LSG, as he managed to list just 38 runs from seven innings at a dismal average of 5.42.
While he still holds a formidable record with the bat in all T20 matches, it remains to be seen which franchise bids the highest for the talents of Devdutt Padikkal at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
1. Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant has played all his IPL matches for the Delhi Capitals ever since he made his tournament debut back in 2016. From franchise rebranding to numerous management changes, from playing as an uncapped 18-year-old to leading the team as one of its seniormost members, Pant has seen it all during his eight-year journey with the franchise. Interestingly, he was released by the Capitals after IPL 2024, even though the batting marauder raided 446 runs in 13 innings of the season at a strike rate of 155.40.
Certain reports indicated that the dashing wicketkeeper-batter wanted to continue as team captain, while the franchise was willing to retain the cricketer purely as a player. Nonetheless, Rishabh Pant’s credibility with the bat and with the gloves will surely make him one of the top draws of the auction event this November.
