IPL 2025 Final Breaks All Record; RCB's Title Win Generates 169 Million Viewership

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 witnessed the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeat the Punjab Kings to become the new champions of the tournament. This was their maiden IPL title as the 18-year-old drought ended with the Red Army winning the match by 6 runs.

The finale also set a new viewership record in India, with 169 million viewers watching the match, as per a report by Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) data. This record viewership has surpassed the previous record of 166 million set during the India Vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match in 2021.

The IPL finale reached a television rating of 11, marking the third highest rating in IPL history despite the finale taking place on a weekday (Tuesday, June 3). In terms of total watch time, the IPL final generated 15 billion minutes.

Why RCB-PBKS finale broke all records?

RCB is perhaps the most popular team in the IPL but despite their popularity, the team was eluded of an IPL trophy for 18 years. Prior to 2025 season, RCB last reached the finals in 2016 but suffered a heartbreak.

Hence, when the opportunity came up to witness the team in the finale once again, the world wanted to see the team end their trophy drought. Their star player, Virat Kohli is a symbol of loyalty and fans from across the globe wanted him to win the title for the first time.

CSK-MI IPL match the second most watched game

After the IPL final match, the second-most watched game was between the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians. The match generated 163 million viewership. The two teams have had a fierce rivalry in the league and have won the competition a grand total of 5-times each.

CSK and MI have been the two most successful teams in the league and it was but obvious that the contest between the two would have generated huge number of views.
