IPL 2024 schedule to be rolled out in phases | Source: X.com
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 schedule is expected to roll out in phases, with the Governing Council, led by Arun Singh Dhumal, currently in the finalization process. The initial phase's schedule for the lucrative tournament will be announced shortly.
The BCCI is not considering moving the IPL out of India because of the elections. Just like in 2019, when the organisers staggered the schedule of the cash-rich league because of the elections, they will announce the first few games' schedule first, then fill in the rest, including the big games like qualifiers and finals.
“We have been discussing internally and have more or less figured out the schedule but a final announcement is likely to happen the moment we get clarity and necessary clearances from the Home Ministry and Election Commission of India on the polling schedule,” says a source aware of developments.
“The schedule will be announced in phases. Like it happened in 2019. For the first few games of each team, we will release the schedule soon and then we get more clarity on polling schedule and other important dates, we will announce the remainder,” adds the source.
With the 2019 General Elections split into seven phases, the BCCI opted to disclose the schedule for the IPL's first two weeks. Yet, insiders reveal that discussions between the board, IPL GC, and franchises hint at a tentative late March start for the high-stakes league.
With the five-Test series against England in full swing, India's Test regulars will have a brief respite of just over a week before plunging into the excitement of the T20 bonanza.
This IPL season carries profound importance for players harbouring dreams of representing India in the 2024 T20 World Cup, as their performances will be scrutinized for selection.
