IPL 2022 | Tim David challenges Liam Livingstone with a 114m six

Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Tim David blasted the second-highest six of the ongoing IPL 2022 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Tuesday (May 17).

During the 65th match of the ongoing 15th edition of the Indian Premier League at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, SRH broke their five-match losing streak, defeating the Mumbai Indians by 3 runs in what turned out to be an edge-of-a-seat thriller in the end.

MI winning the toss invited SRH to bat first, and they posted 193 runs on board with the help of a good knock from Rahul Tripathi. Kane Williamson making Priyam Garg to open the innings for SRH changed the complexion of the game.

Chasing the target of 194 runs, MI had a solid start. Both Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma played some brilliant shots, but MI lost their way in the middle. The five-time champions lost quick wickets in the middle overs of the chase, which brought Tim David on the crease.

David came on to bat at number 5 and scored a quick-fire 46 runs in 18 balls. The hard-hitting batter unleashed his beast mode during the 18th Over off T. Natarajan, with another 45 runs required off the final three Overs. After hitting a six off the first delivery, the 26-year-old tonked Natarajan for three consecutive maximums beginning from the third delivery to collect as many as 26 runs off the over.

However, he was eventually run-out on the final delivery of the same over due to massive indecision on his part. MI needed 19 to win off the last over, but they fell short by 3 runs.

On the fifth delivery of Natarajan's over, Tim David clubbed the left-arm seamer for a 114 meters Six – the second-biggest in IPL 2022, towards Long-on, which landed somewhere in the uppermost deck of the stands. Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Liam Livingstone still holds the honours for the longest six of the tournament, measured at 117 meters.

Sophie Ecclestone opens up on importance of tournaments like FairBreak Invitational for young women cricketers

Champion England spinner Sophie Ecclestone believes that a tournament like the FairBreak Invitational T20, recently held in the Emirates, is an excellent opportunity for women cricketers from obscure nations like Japan, Malaysia, and Thailand to rub shoulders with the best in the game and showcase their talent at the global stage. The recently-concluded T20 event proved to be a platform for players from the countries mentioned above, giving them an equal opportunity to perform. The multi-nation tournament had representation from more than 30 countries, and some of the most engaging cricket was on display. Speaking to OneCricket, on the impact of such a tournament on young women cricketers beyond the elite nations, Ecclestone said: "Yeah, I think something like that is definitely massive, for associates like countries, like David who plays for Singapore and my team who think are going back to Singapore, and being part of the leagues and playing with the international players, I think that's massive and gives them something to look up to us in their countries and say I wanna do that, and I think it's amazing we've got a player for Japan and her coming over and playing here gives Japan a major lift and reasons for Japan to invest into Women's sport and cricket as a game." The current number-one ranked ODI and T2oI bowler in women's cricket, Ecclestone, finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker. The left-arm orthodox revealed that she benefited from the experience of playing in Dubai and other venues in the Emirates nation during the Women's T20 Challenge a couple of years ago. "I played here last year for the IPL invitational, so I think that was a good experience, I think I played in Dubai and then in Sharjah, we played our games there and they (pitches) were quite slow, so I think they helped me out a bit." The tournament was eventually won by the Sarah Taylor-led Tornadoes Women, who thumped the Falcons by eight wickets in the summit clash. Click to watch the entire conversation with Sophie Ecclestone
