KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bat first as he, alongside his fellow opener Quinton de Kock shattered the record for the biggest opening stand in the history of the league as the duo scored an unbeaten 210 runs in the designated 20 overs smashing the KKR bowlers all over the park.

In the death overs, the batter took a particular favourite to Tim Southee and Andre Russell, smashing them for consecutive boundaries.

The batter had a slow start; however, he soon picked up the pace within the power play, and there was no looking back as he took the bowlers to the cleaners. No one was spared as Sunil Narine emerged as the most economical bowler spending 27 runs in his four overs.

Biggest opening stand ever in the history of Indian Premier League

KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock scored 210 runs in the twenty overs breaking the standing record made by Jonny Bairstow and David Warner as the duo put up a 185 runs stand for the first wicket against RCB donning the colours of SRH in 2019.

Rahul played a significant supporting role as he frequently rotated the strike while playing his part, scoring 68 runs in 51 deliveries consisting of three fours and four sixes. While the player looked a little slow compared to his calibre, he did not allow the bowlers to make a comeback into the game.
