IPL 2022 | 'This is probably the best form of my life,' says Jos Buttler

The Indian Premier League witnessed some high voltage fiasco as the Delhi Capitals took on the Rajasthan Royals in the ‘Match 33’. While the Royals emerged victorious by fifteen runs courtesy of a subliminal knock from opener Jos Buttler, the innings were overshadowed by the controversy in the final over of the contest.

Orange Cap holder Jos Buttler, who has been in red hot from his sizzling performances in the ongoing edition, has created a record for most runs in IPL history and subsequently overtook Virat Kohli.

The explosive batsman has smashed three centuries in seven innings and has a total of 491 runs in the season. Buttler delivered a spectacular 116 and drove his team to victory. Nicknamed ‘Jos the Boss’, Buttler has been executing a season that batsmen can only dream of.

Jos Buttler delivered a decisive knock against the Delhi Capitals. He was also awarded the man of the match award.

“It was a special knock; I enjoyed it. I love this stadium, a fantastic atmosphere. Also, my first ever IPL was here with the Mumbai Indians. I am enjoying it, and this is probably the best form of my life. I would want to continue with this form all throughout. In the initial few overs, the ball was swinging both ways, and we needed to set our eyes in. Once I got through it, the confidence came back.” said Buttler in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Fans and peers have hailed Buttler for his extraordinary run in the 15th edition of the IPL. His batting fanatics against the Delhi Capitals has driven twitter to fury and awe. He also became only the second player to score two centuries in a single season of the IPL.

The Capitals needed 36 runs off the last six balls, which seemed like an impossible task with the side down to just three wickets. However, Robvman Powell brought the stage on fire with two consecutive maximums off the first two deliveries to pressure Obed McCoy. The West Indian bowling to his compatriot attempted a yorker that turned into a waist-high full toss that was smashed into the stands by Powell.

The batter quickly turned to the on-field umpires, searching for a no-ball sign. However, the umpires were rigid in considering the ball a fair delivery which enraged the Delhi Capital players. Skipper Rishab Pant wanted to call his troops back and seemed annoyed at the call from the umpires.

The team urged the umpires to refer it to the TV umpire. However, the decision stood the same: the umpires refused to heed all calls and resumed the game. Speaking during the post-match conference, Rishab had this to say,

“I think they were bowling well throughout the game, and in the end, Powell gave us a chance. The no-ball could have been precious for us, and they would have checked that, but that is not in my control. Everyone was frustrated. Everyone on the ground saw that. The TV umpire should have intervened, but I cannot change the rule. What I did was not right, but the decision was also not right.”

While Pant's actions in no way were justified, it is something that happened in the heat of the moment. However, from the severity of the situation, it does not seem like the DC skipper will come out unscathed, as we could see the BCCI impose a hefty fine on the player.
