County Championship 2022 | Bohannon makes Gloucestershire’s bowlers toil hard on-field

It was a tough day in the office for Gloucestershire’s bowlers as Lancashire lost just two wickets in the whole day’s play. At stumps, the home side led by 37 runs, and they will look to pile on Gloucestershire’s misery on Day 3.

Resuming the day on 11/1, Lancashire’s overnight batter Luke Wells was joined by all-rounder Josh Bohannon in the middle. The pair looked in no mood to give away their wicket and propelled the team’s score to 103/1 at Lunch. However, Wells fell soon after the break as the left-arm spinner, Zafar Gohar, trapped him before the wickets.

After a 106-run partnership for the second wicket, Wells’ dismissal brought Steven Croft to the crease. Bohannon struck boundaries whenever the opportunity arose. Croft gave him good company, and the duo ensured that no further damage occurred in the second session.

Bohannon and Croft’s gritty play put Lancashire on the course of gaining a vital first-innings lead. However, their 117-run partnership ultimately ended as Gohar claimed his second wicket. He cleaned up Croft on 34 and brought some respite to Gloucestershire.

Although the feeling of relief was short-lived as captain Dane Vilas joined Bohannon in the middle. At stumps, Vilas remains unbeaten on 39, giving the centurion good company. The century-maker will resume Day 3 on 142 and will look to add to the first innings lead of 37. If Lancashire’s batters depict the same level of determination on Day 3, they will bat out the opposition from the game.

Gloucestershire’s bowlers have been made to work hard for their wickets. But, except for Zafar Gohar, no bowler has been able to get his name on the wickets column. They would like to trigger a collapse on Day 3 and minimise the damage.
