IPL 2022 | PBKS vs RCB | Superstar, Under-performer of the Match

Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings faced off against each other in Match 60 of Indian Premier League 2022. Punjab once again proved to be a team with a bag full of surprises. After suffering a thrashing defeat against Rajasthan Royals in their last match by 6 wickets, the Kings pulled off a convincing win against RCB by 54 runs.

Here we look at the Superstar and the Underperformer of the Match.

Punjab had a few brilliant performances that helped them to their win. However, it was tough to decide on an out-and-out Superstar of the match. Therefore, we will be taking the help of a new parameter called performance score to find out the Superstar of the Match.

Performance Score: This is a parameter that considers a batter’s contribution to the team’s performance, his Balls per Boundary, and his strike rate compared to the general scoring rate of the match.

In the case of bowlers, it considers the bowler’s contribution to the team, the runs conceding rate compared to the general scoring rate of the match, and the number of wickets taken by them.

Let us look at the outstanding performances of last night’s match and then determine who the Superstar of the Match was.

Jonny Bairstow: Bairstow gave a brilliant start to the PBKS team, scoring 66 runs off 29 deliveries and gave a start which the team built on and posted a mammoth total of 209 runs from their 20 overs.

Performance Score: 57.89

Liam Livingstone: Livingstone was the main factor why PBKS could capitalize on the start that Bairstow provided them. The English all-rounder scored 70 runs off 42 deliveries and kept the momentum in Punjab’s favour.

Performance Score: 76.18

Kagiso Rabada: If Bairstow and Livingstone set up the match for PBKS, it was Kagiso Rabada who ensured their win. The smearing seamer picked up three wickets for 21 runs in his four overs.

Performance Score: 60.18

Superstar of the Match: As we see, the highest performance score is for Liam Livingstone and hence, he gets ‘Superstar of the Match’ for his brilliant middle-order exploits.

Under-performer of the Match: We witnessed two disappointing performances from two of the leading bowlers of the RCB team.

Josh Hazlewood: The prime bowling option of RCB failed to impress in last night’s match, conceding 64 runs in his 4 overs without picking up a wicket.

Performance Score: -15.3

Mohammed Siraj: One more bowler of the RCB team who was disappointed yesterday night was Siraj. The India seamer conceded 36 runs from two overs and failed to pick up a wicket.

Performance Score: -17.22

Underperformer of the Match: Both the bowlers put up a disappointing show in the match. But as far as the Performance score goes, Mohammad Siraj was more disappointing in the game. But given the dependency of Bangalore on Hazlewood, his failure probably impacted the team more. So, despite having a higher performance score than Siraj, Josh Hazlewood is the ‘Underperformer of the Match.’
