IPL 2022 | Madan Lal laments CEO involvement in team selection for KKR's poor show

After the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer revealed the franchise CEO, Venky Mysore's, interference in the team selection, the cricketing fraternity since then has been debating over if this is the reason behind the team's dismal Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign.

The latest addition to the chorus is the legendary India pacer Madan Lal, who hit back at the Kolkata-based franchise for the very same reason, and added the side currently is functioning 'fundamentally' wrong.

"I am personally shocked and dismayed by Iyer’s revelations. If that’s true then what are coaches and support staff doing? It is the job of coaches and captains to decide on the team and not the CEO. That’s the reason why the team is performing so badly on the field. Something is fundamentally wrong within the team," Lal said as quoted by News18.

Although KKR won their last encounter against Mumbai Indians (MI), scrutiny came their way when Iyer revealed that their CEO is also a part of the team selection process.

"Coach and at times, CEO is also obviously involved in team selections. Each and every player takes it well, and they have put in their best efforts,” Iyer had said in the post-match presentation after the MI clash.

Meanwhile, the Knight Riders are placed at the eighth spot on the points table with five wins in 12 matches. For KKR to qualify for the playoffs, they need to win the two remaining games. Moreover, they would hope that the results of the other team's matches fit according to their plan.

Kolkata Knight Riders would next lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 14 at MCA Stadium, Pune.
