IPL 2022 | KL Rahul threading on thin lines with second breach in code of conduct

KL Rahul had a tremendous outing yesterday as his side registered their 2nd victory against Mumbai Indians this season. However, the LSG skipper has been slapped with a heavy fine for violating the over-rate code of conduct.

KL Rahul was fined INR 24 lakh for not finishing the match on time. This is the second time in the season that the 30-year-old has been found guilty of going behind the expected over rate. Rahul, who is in subliminal form, scored another hundred against MI this season.

Further, he led his side to a comfortable 36-run victory, but in search of perfect decisions, the player sacrificed the pre-determined over rate.

With this fine, Rahul has put himself in a dangerous situation, as per the official rules of IPL. If he repeats the offence for the 3rd time, he will be docked a fine of 30 Lakhs and handed a one-match ban.

The rest of the squad have been fined 25% of their match fees and have been asked to consider the matter moving forward. Acknowledging the slow over-rate issue, KL addressed the following during the post-match presentation, “Will have to make up for all the over rates and fines I’m getting.”

KL registered his second hundred of the season and third against the five-time champions. He also came close to Buttler in the race for the orange cap as the latter sits on the top with 491 runs to his name in comparison to Rahul with 368 runs who is in the second place on the list.

Reacting to his hundred and team’s victory, Rahul stated, “Trying to play according to the situation, see what’s expected out of me. Enjoying batting, enjoying the responsibility. Fingers crossed, I can keep doing the right things. My first thought was just getting the bat on the ball, feel good, get that single.”

“When you’ve played in a venue that’s been good to me previously, but not so much in the last two games, I just wanted to get that single first. Lucky that I could score as much as I did. I try and assess the pitch and conditions and see what’s best I could do for the team.”

With the win over Mumbai, Lucknow Super Giants have positioned themselves amongst the top four teams on the league standings.
