County Championship 2022 Division II | To get two double hundreds is pleasing: Shan Masood

It has been a momentous time for the Pakistan top-order batter, Shan Masood. In Pakistan Super League 2021/22, he returned as one of the finest batters in the tournament with 478 runs in 12 innings and took his team Multan Sultans to the final.

In his debut stint for Derbyshire, he has etched his name in the history books by becoming the first Pakistan player to score two successive double centuries in the County Championship.

The southpaw scored his first double ton in Round 2 fixture of the second division against Sussex, finishing with a 239 off 340 balls.

He looked in proper flow in the subsequent round match and eventually hit 219 off 268 balls, helping his team secure a victory by an innings and 68 runs over Leicestershire on Sunday.

After scoring two back-to-back double centuries, Masood reckoned that if the team needs to do well this season, the players must keep scoring big hundreds.

“If we are to do well, we need to make the big hundreds. To get two double hundreds is pleasing. Making it big is always something we talk about.” said Masood.

In 3 innings, Masood has amassed 611 runs at an average of 152.75 and is leading the run-scoring charts for Division Two. Meanwhile, at the moment, Derbyshire are placed in the second spot with 51 points after two victories and a draw.

Masood, who last featured in Pakistan’s colours way back in January 2021, will be putting a strong case for himself to be back in the Test team. If the 32-year old batter continues his golden run, he would surely become a grim headache for the team management back home.
