IPL 2022 | DC spoilt for choices with Mitchell Marsh's return

In a heartening development for the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals, Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has recovered from injury and is set to make his first appearance in IPL 2022.

Marsh, who was picked by the Capitals for a whopping sum of Rs 6.5 Crores, suffered a hip-flexor injury during training ahead of the recent ODI series against Pakistan.

He was subsequently ruled out of the entire white-ball leg of the Pakistan tour. As a result, Marsh left the Aussie squad and joined the Delhi Capitals during the first week of the current season to rehabilitate under Patrick Farhart.

Now that he has completed his rehabilitation process, the batting all-rounder will be available for selection in Delhi's next encounter against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Marsh will likely replace an out-of-form Rovman Powell and might slot in at the No.3 spot.

The addition of Marsh will only make Delhi stronger, and assistant coach Shane Watson believes that the 2020 runners-up will be very hard to beat from now on.

Speaking to the Grade Cricketer, Watson said:

"I think we've got one of the strongest teams now, and now Mitchell Marsh is going to be coming back in. It's looking like he'd be coming in for the next game... We're not going to have too many, no real weak links at all now with just the way the franchise picked up [players at the auction],"

"So, there's not too many weak links and Mitch Marsh is coming in to bat most probably [No.] 3. [It] just gives us even more strength, so we're going to be really hard to beat now that we've got our sort of full squad together, our best team together really. And it just depends on injuries along the way, but it's exciting"

Marsh's participation in the IPL has been plagued by recurring injury issues in the last few seasons. Nevertheless, he was picked up by the Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the 2020 mini-auction.

But, the Western Australian cricketer got ruled out after he picked up an injury in his maiden outing. Last year, Marsh raised his stocks after scoring a match-winning 77 against New Zealand to help Australia win their maiden Men's T20 World Cup final, and DC will hope for the right-hander to carry the same form in the IPL.

Delhi, who have won two out of their four games, will face the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium on April 16.
