IPL 2021 | What Experts Said after RCB push RR on backfoot to etch another win

The Royal Challengers Bangalore continued their good run in IPL 2021 and etched another win in the competition after beating Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets in Dubai on Wednesday night. Chasing 150, the RCB went over the line in the 18th over.

Opener Devdutt Padikkal and captain Virat Kohli gave a brisk start to the Bangalore side after the two left-right batting duo put 48 on the board for the first wicket before Padikkal was cleaned up by Mustafizur Rahman for 22 off 17.

Kohli was then joined by Striker Bharat in the middle and the two batsmen could only manage to add 10 runs in the score before Kohli was run out by Riyan Paragraphed for a 20-ball 25.

But Bharat and Glenn Maxwell steadied the ship for the side and stitched a stand of 69 runs for the third wicket. Bharat eventually departed for 44 off 35 while Maxwell remained unbeaten at 50 off 30 deliveries to take RCB home. Mustafizur picked up a couple of wickets for RR at the cost of 20 runs in three overs.

Earlier, RR who were put into bat by Kohli too had an aggressive and a steady start as Evin Lewis and Yashasvi Jaiswal put 77 runs on the board for the first wicket in less than nine overs. While Jaiswal struck 31 off 22, Lewis went on to notch up a fifty before he was out.

Lewis’ broke the shackles and RR began to lose wickets at regular intervals to get restricted to 149/9 in 20 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal and Shahbaz Ahmed scalped a couple of wickets apiece while marshal Patel picked up three wickets for 34 runs in 4 overs.

RR captain Sanju Samson admitted that the batting unit wasn’t able to capitalise on the start it got.

“We got a really good start, our openers played really well, but we couldn't capitalize on it. Think the middle-order needs some confidence, it has been a hard one week for us, we need to put up a good fight,” he said during the post-match presentation.

RCB skipper Kohli lauded the bowling efforts and hailed the way the side made a comeback in the match.

“We have come back strongly in two games back-to-back with the ball which is great. It means we are heading in the right direction. We came back and dominated. 175 would have been competitive. With the kind of bowling attack we have, we need a couple of breakthroughs and things will open up,” he said.

Experts Opinions

Journalist Ayaz Memon criticised RR’s batting performance. “With top order clicking, stroll in the park for RCB , Chasing target of 149 can be tricky, RCB batsmen fully in control. RR were on the backfoot after disappointing batting  performance ran out of options swiftly in bowling too,” he tweeted.

Commentator Harsha Bhogle came up with an innovative way to praise RCB’s win. “It is now just a statistical possibility that they won't make it. I think RCB supporters can celebrate,” he wrote on Twitter.

Former India bowler RP Singh lavished praise on Harshal Patel for being among the wickets in this season. “Harshal Patel once again outstanding in last over. Patel is now in great league of Indian bowlers who have taken more than 25 wickets in a season,” he tweeted.

RR will now play CSK in Abu Dhabi on Saturday while RCB will be up against Punjab Kings in Sharjah on Sunday.

IPL 2021 | SRH vs CSK: With nothing much to lose, Chennai take on Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad have had the most disappointing IPL season since they lifted the trophy back in 2016. The Hyderabad-based franchise has already been knocked out of the tournament after losing 8 out of the nine matches that they played. SRH will now be up against Chennai Super Kings in Sharjah on Thursday. CSK are in some good form and have won eight out of the 10 matches that they have featured in. Both the sides are coming into the game on the back of a win in their respective last encounters. The Sunrisers rode on some fine piece of batting from Jason Roy and captain Kane Williamson to chase down a tricky target of 165 in Dubai by 7 wickets. CSK on the other side were involved in a last- ball thriller against KKR while chasing 172 but eventually stood on the winning podium in Abu Dhabi. Ravindra Jadeja once again showed up his class and calibre at a crunch situation and chipped in with 8-ball 22. This is the second instance when the two sides are facing each other in this edition of the IPL. The last time the two teams met was in Delhi where CSK chased down a target of 172 runs by 7 wickets, courtesy a batting masterclass from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis. While CSK would now look to continue the momentum, SRH will have a chance to test a few players. Match Details Match: SRH vs CSK, 44th Match, Indian Premier League 2021 Date: Thursday, September 30, 2021 Time: 7:30 PM Venue: Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah Pitch Report The track might have something on offer for the batsmen while the spinners can play a vital role in the middle overs. So, if you win the toss, elect to bat first. ‘All-rounder’ Ravindra Jadeja Ravindra Jadeja has proven his worth time and again. He has been a lethal customer with the bat for CSK and has chipped in with some runs at brisk pace during the course of the tournament while has been a handy bowler as well. Apart from this, Jadeja’s fielding ability has always been something to watch out for. The left-handed all-rounder has been one of the many reasons for CSK's brilliant form at the moment in the competition. No opening woes The Chennai Super Kings have Ruturaj Gaikwad at the top who has been in decent form in the tournament and has been scoring runs for the side consistently. On the other end, Faf du Plessis’ experience with the bat is immense and having a player of his capability is a boon for any side. Contrary to this, SRH had been facing some issues with their opening after former skipper David Warner has had a lean patch for quite some time now. But the Sunrisers brought in Jason Roy in place of Warner and the England batsman didn’t really take much time to stamp his authority. While he notched up a fifty, Roy also provided a steady start to the team along with Saha. Team News CSK: The Chennai Super Kings are in decent form and would be looking to continue the momentum. The Super Kings might want to try their bench strength in this match and give rest to other players to manage the work load. SRH: The Sunrisers Hyderabad would want their middle order and especially the young brigade to go all guns blazing. Barring Jason Holder, none of the players have really shown mettle in the competition and the team management would want them to finish the tournament on a positive note. Probable XI SRH: Jason Roy, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Priyam Garg, Kane Williamson (C), Abhishek Sharma, Abdul Samad, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Sharma, Siddarth Kaul CSK: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni (C & wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Josh Hazlewood Fantasy XI Wriddhiman Saha, Faf du Plessis (C), Kane Williamson (VC), Abdul Samad, Jason Holder, Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Rashid-Khan, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar
