Women BBL 2021-22 | Melbourne Renegades Women sign up Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues

The Melbourne Renegades Women have signed up India Women’s T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur and explosive batter Jemimah Rodrigues for the upcoming edition of the Women's Big Bash League scheduled to start on October 14. However, neither Harmanpreet nor Jemimah played any of the games in the recently-concluded limited-overs series against Australian Women and their lack of game time can be a point of concern. However, the Renegades Women have gone for the record and match-winning abilities. "I’m very excited to be here now and to be part of the Renegades. I think for me, the main goal over here will be just to pull back and play cricket, play some good cricket and enjoy what I’m doing. I know when I do that and when I’m in that headspace, I’m able to give it my best," Rodrigues said. "The goal is whatever happens, I want to give it my 100 percent each and every time I’m on the field… and hopefully (we can win) the cup for the Renegades. I’m super excited, I’m really looking forward to it and there’s so much that I’m going to learn, I’m sure about that." Harmanpareet and Jemimah’s inclusion in the Renegade Women camp is the latest addition of Indian Women stars after the Sydney Sixers picked explosive Indian opener Shafali Verma and left-arm spinner Radha Yadav, and the Sydney Thunder picked Verma’s partner Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma for their BBL campaign this season.

Kuldeep Yadav undergoes surgery, vows strong comeback after rehab

India’s spinner Kuldeep Yadav has undergone surgery on his injured knee that ruled him out of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League and may also put him out of some part of the Indian domestic season. The left-arm wrist-spinner took to Twitter to share the update of his health. Kuldeep has been going through a rough patch as most of the time has gone sitting on the sidelines for both the Kolkata Knight Riders and India. He did not play even one game in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League and was on the sidelines. He was not in the main gameplan of the KKR in the last edition as well and could feature in only five games where he picked only one wicket at 92 apiece with an economy rate of 7.66 runs per over. Kuldeep’s career has gone downhill in the last few years. He has gone off the radar of the Indian team and played just one long-format game with the men in blue earlier this year.

Senior players called up Jay Shah & complained about Virat Kohli: Reports

Virat Kohli’s decision of stepping down from T20I captaincy after the World T20 came as a shock for many. The right-handed batsman made the announcement in a social media post. There were a number of speculations after Kohli made the announcement. However, the captain cited it as a workload management process. Now, according to 'The New Indian Express' report, a couple of senior players had called up BCCI secretary Jay Shah personally and complained about Kohli’s captaincy after the conclusion of the World Test Championship. Kohli had expressed his disappointment after the batting collapse during the WTC final. “If you don't put their bowlers under pressure then they have the fitness and the consistency to bowl long spells and keep bowling all day in the same areas and trouble you, and the more momentum you give them, then invariably they get the breakthroughs they want. The mindset has to be to score runs and find ways to score runs. You can't be too worried about getting out because you are [then] bringing the bowler into the game completely," Kohli had said. According to ' The New Indian Express' sources, the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane also faced the heat in the dressing room after the match. As per another report by the news agency IANS, another senior player complained about Kohli for making him feel insecure in the side. The report further states that some of the sources have mentioned that the team member was R Ashwin. If the reports are to be believed then, Kohli also had a fall out with the selectors on the World T20 team selection after R Ashwin was included in the squad while the captain wanted Yuzvendra Chahal in the side for the tournament.

One-off Test between Australia & Afghanistan to get postponed officially this week

CA will formally postpone the one-off Test between Australia and Afghanistan indefinitely this week. The match was earlier slated to begin on November 27 in Hobart but the CA had issued a statement earlier stating that the fixture would not be hosted if the women’s cricket in Afghanistan is not supported. "If recent media reports that women's cricket will not be supported in Afghanistan are substantiated, Cricket Australia would have no alternative but to not host Afghanistan for the proposed Test," CA said in a statement on September 9. Cricket Tasmania (CT) chief executive Dominic Baker confirmed that the Test match won’t take place."It will be formally postponed indefinitely this week," Baker told radio station Triple M. "It's not acceptable that they don't allow female sport. If they want to play competitive male sport, particularly in the cricket sphere, they're going to have to rethink what they do,” he added. The Taliban government's cultural commission’s spokesperson Ahmadullah Wasiq, had told Australian broadcaster SBS News the women are not allowed to play any sport including cricket according to Islamic law. "Islam and the Islamic Emirate do not allow women to play cricket or play the kind of sports where they get exposed," Wasiq said. He further said that the players might face a situation where their face and body will not be covered while playing the game. "In cricket, they might face a situation where their face and body will not be covered. Islam does not allow women to be seen like this,” he added.
