Australian cricket star Glenn Maxwell will reportedly take on a surprising new challenge. He is likely to join the Melbourne Stars’ Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) team as an assistant coach during the upcoming Spring Challenge.
While fans are used to seeing Maxwell smashing sixes and pulling off spectacular fielding efforts, this time he’ll be helping from the sidelines. The 37-year-old all-rounder is currently recovering from an arm injury sustained while bowling in the nets during Australia’s recent tour of New Zealand.
Glenn Maxwell to venture into coaching role
Though sidelined from playing, Glenn Maxwell isn’t one to sit idle. Instead, he’s turning his focus to coaching, joining Melbourne Stars Women as assistant coach for the upcoming Spring Challenge.
According to Code Sports, Maxwell will work alongside Stars head coach Andy Christie and guide the team through the Spring Challenge, a short but intense pre-season tournament that serves as valuable preparation for the WBBL season.
His presence is expected to give the players a major confidence boost, especially given his deep understanding of T20 cricket. The Melbourne Stars women begin their Spring Challenge campaign on October 21, facing the Adelaide Strikers, with Glenn Maxwell watching keenly from the sidelines, not with a bat, but with a coach’s notebook.
Maxwell picks up a forearm injury
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the New Zealand T20I series after suffering a freak injury during net practice.
While bowling to Mitch Owen, Maxwell was struck on the forearm by a powerful shot, with scans later confirming a fracture. The 36-year-old, who has battled several bizarre injuries in recent years, including a broken leg at a birthday party and a concussion from a golf cart fall, will now undergo recovery.
Josh Philippe has been called up as his replacement, while Marcus Stoinis is expected to benefit from Maxwell’s absence.
