  • Indian Captain Harmanpreet Kaur Re Signs With Melbourne Renegades For Wbbl 2022

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur re-signs with Melbourne Renegades for WBBL 2022

The Melbourne Renegades will continue their association with India's Harmanpreet Kaur for their upcoming Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) season. Kaur, who is India's white-ball captain, made her WBBL debut for the Renegades last year, scoring 406 runs at an impressive average of 58.

The leading run-getter in the last edition smacked 18 sixes (most) while also picking up 15 wickets with her spin bowling.

In a statement released by the club, Kaur sounded excited about her partnership with the club. The 33-year-old said, "I'm excited to be coming back to the Renegades. I really enjoyed being part of the team environment last season and felt like that helped me produce some of my best cricket,"

"Personally, I just wanted to play my role for the team, and it was pleasing to be able to do that. We supported each other as a team last year and were able to get some good results, but we still have plenty of room to improve. Hopefully, we can do that, make the finals again and put ourselves in a position to compete for the title."

The middle-order batter was also named to the WBBL team of the season and won the illustrious Player of the Tournament award, getting 31 votes.

Renegades general manager James Rosengarten welcomed Kaur, saying her skills with the bat and ability to lead will help them immensely.

"We couldn't be more excited to have Harmanpreet returning to our club this summer. Harmanpreet is one of the best players in the world. Her record speaks for itself. She was outstanding for us last season and was a match-winner on multiple occasions, having a prolific impact across the tournament with both bat and ball," Rosengarten said, talking about Harmanpreet's importance.

"As an experienced player, Harmanpreet's leadership and calm approach under pressure was a huge asset for our team. She was a great fit on and off the field and really bought into our team environment. After being unable to play games in Melbourne last season, we know our fans will be thrilled about the prospect of watching Harmanpreet in action in WBBL 08." the general manager concluded.

Currently leading the Indian Women's team in Sri Lanka, Kaur was the second-highest (92) run-scorer in T20Is and is heading the charts in the ODIs (44), with one game to go.
