ENG vs IND | I'm pretty sure we'll be able to have dinner: Jonny Baistow

In-form Jonny Bairstow stood between England and India, taking a massive lead on Day 3 of the one-off Test at Edgbaston. Initially playing off Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami cautiously, the Yorkshire-born turned up the heat in the day's second session.

Apart from his batting, another highlight was his on-field exchange with Virat Kohli, where they both had to be calmed down by umpires.

Bairstow soon went berzerk and knocked over his third consecutive hundred in a mere 119 balls, batting on 13 from 65 balls before his dialogue with Kohli.

Speaking about his interaction with Kohli, Bairstow clarified that it was ' literally nothing' but the two players giving their best in the middle.

According to India Today, he jokingly said, "Refused to invite him for, as I mentioned earlier, there was literally nothing. We've been fortunate to play against each other for ten years. So, I'm pretty sure we'll be able to have dinner. Don't worry about it."

Kohli managed to have the last laugh, catching Bairstow at first slip off Shami, who was batting on 106.

In India's second innings, the England fielders were quite animated when the former captain came out to bat.

Kohli scored 20 runs before former England captain Joe Root caught him in the slip cordon off a snorter from current skipper Ben Stokes.

Root was celebrated much like Kohli usually does after his wicket.

More about the Test, post-Bairstow's dismissal, England added 43 runs and were bundled out for 284, giving the visitors a lead of 132 runs, with Mohammed Siraj claiming four wickets.

In reply, Shubman Gill and Hanuma Vihari added just 4 and 11 runs to the scoreboard before being dismissed.

At the end of the play, India lead by 257 runs, with Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant batting on 50* and 30*, respectively.
