Ireland Women squad announced for Tri-Series against Australia and Pakistan

On July 3 (Sunday), Cricket Ireland announced the 14-member squad for the T20 tri-series against Australia and Pakistan. The series is slated to be played from 16 to July 24 at Bready.

The regular captain Laura Delaney has recovered from the injury and is making a comeback to lead the side. The likes of Orla Prendergast and Rebecca Stokell, who were injured, will also be a part of this series.

The young players, Ava Canning and Amy Hunter, have completed their exam commitments and have been named in the squad. In October last year, Hunter became the youngest player to hit a century in the ODI format. She achieved this unique feat by knocking 121 off 127 balls against Zimbabwe.

The right-arm spinner Celeste Raack and wicket-keeper Laura Waldron lost their place in the side after an ordinary performance in the recent series against South Africa.

The squad is expected to consist of the best set of players, who are expected to feature in the T20 Qualifiers in September.

"We were pleased to see numerous strong performances during the recent South Africa series and, combined with the return of several players to the player pool after exams or injury, it has certainly made for several tough decisions on selection," said Carrie Archer, Chair of National Women's Selectors.

"However, these selection challenges only serve to underscore the positive fact that we are on the right track in the development of an increased talent pool to choose from in Ireland,"

"Indeed, several players who missed out on this squad can consider themselves unfortunate, but certainly not out of contention for further opportunities, particularly in the lead up to T20 World Cup Qualifier in September," Carrie added.

Ireland faced South Africa on their home soil in June. However, they lost the T20I Series 2-1 and were whitewashed 3-0 in the 50-overs format.

Squad: Laura Delany (c), Ava Canning, Rachel Delaney, Georgina Dempsey, Amy Hunter, Shauna Kavanagh, Arlene Kelly, Gaby Lewis, Sophie MacMahon, Jane Maguire, Cara Murray, Leah Paul, Orla Prendergast, Rebecca Stokell
