The Indian women’s cricket team is set to compete in an ODI tri-series for the first time in nearly 23 years (barring Asia Cup) through the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. Currently engaged in a WPL season at home, Harmanpreet Kaur’s Indian drawcards are scheduled to fly to Sri Lanka in April to play an ODI tri-series, where South Africa will serve as the third competitor.

The last time an Indian women’s team played an ODI tri-series (outside Asia Cup) occurred back in July 2002 against New Zealand and hosts England.

India’s previous women’s ODI tri-series (outside Asia Cup) occurred way back in July 2002 in England. However, the Indian women’s team has participated in a couple of Quadrangular ODI tournaments since then, with the latest of them being the 2017 series in South Africa against Ireland, Zimbabwe and the hosts. Under the leadership of Mithali Raj, Team India won that quadrangular series by pipping South Africa in a one-sided final at Potchefstroom.
