Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar opines that the Men in Blue will miss Jasprit Bumrah's services more in the middle overs than at the death in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022.

Bumrah, Team India’s fast-bowling leader, has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 due to a back injury.

In the last six and half years, from the time he made his T20I debut against Australia, Bumrah has turned out in 58 internationals in the shortest version of the game, taking 69 wickets at an impressive average of 19.46 and at a strike rate of 18.07 to become one of the finest 20-over bowlers.

Bumrah's unavailability will leave a big void in the Indian team in the upcoming continental tournament. Starting his career as a death overs specialist, Bumrah has evolved as a complete T20 bowler with his ability to pick wickets in any phase of the game.

Speaking on Bumrah's absence during an interaction on the Star Sports show 'Follow the Blues', Bangar said:

"Arshdeep (Singh) is a good option who bowls good yorkers, has a lot of control, and an excellent temperament to bowl in the death overs. So he (Bumrah) will not be missed that much in the death overs but the Indian team will definitely feel his absence in the middle overs."

Bowling in the death-overs in T20 cricket leaves no margin for error. It will be interesting to see how the Indian team will fare without Bumrah in the slog overs. As far as middle overs are concerned, India will bank on their spinners to get the crucial breakthroughs.
