Bangladesh T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan believes the inclusion of Sridharan Sriram will have little effect on his team's preparations for the Asia Cup 2022, which begins on August 27.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Friday (August 19 confirmed the appointment of renowned coach Sridharan Sriram as a consultant to bring the Tigers out of the failures in the T20 format.
Sriram’s first assignment with the Bangladesh men's team will be the Asia Cup T20 2022 scheduled to take place in the UAE later this month.
Shakib while speaking to the media Saturday during a commercial event, however, poured cold water over expectations of a sudden change in fortunes.
Shakib low on expectations for Sriram
Sriram is the new spin bowling consultant
Shakib is not expecting any big gains from Sriram in this short time. However, the star all-rounder feels that Sriram's experience will be useful on Australian soil.
"I don't think there is much to expect here. Since he was with the senior team for 5/6 years. Our World Cup is also in Australia. His experience will be useful to us. It's hard to say how much this will be useful in the Asia Cup," said Shakib while speaking to the media during a commercial event.
Bangladesh's stalwart opines that they had to make a new start because Bangla Tigers are struggling badly in the shortest format.
“Very short time, but here we all have a responsibility from our own side. From the coaching staff, from the support staff, BCB, people, if we all can work together I think a new journey will begin," he added.
