In a remarkable initiative, the Punjab government arranged live screenings of the highly anticipated Pakistan-India Champions Trophy match across 44 prisons in the province. This move aimed to promote positive engagement among inmates and saw enthusiastic participation from prisoners and jail officials.
Inmates Cheer For Cricket In Jail Premises
On the directives of Punjab’s Home Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, the IG Prisons ensured that inmates had access to live coverage of the high-stakes clash. Special arrangements were also made in juvenile detention centres, where young inmates dressed in Pakistan cricket team uniforms celebrated with drumbeats and energetic dances.
Senior prison officials, including jail superintendents and regional officers, joined the inmates in watching the match, creating an atmosphere of excitement inside the prisons.
“Positive activities are being promoted to make prisoners better citizens under the Punjab chief minister’s Prison Reforms Policy. Special arrangements were also made in juvenile prisons for live broadcast of cricket matches. Children dressed in Pakistani cricket team uniforms enjoyed the match.” the home department said in a statement.
