After sweeping the T20I series against Afghanistan, India now turns its attention to the red-ball format as Rohit Sharma and his team prepare to face the high-flying England in a five-match Test series at home. The series kicks off with the first Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, commencing on Thursday.
This marks India's third series in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle and the first on home soil, where they have maintained an unbeaten record since 2012. While India aims to continue the streak against England, the last team to defeat them at home.
Part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle, the Test series holds significance for both teams as they vie for maximum points to secure one of the two spots in the WTC Final.
Team India currently occupies the second spot on the points table with two wins in four games – one against West Indies in August last year and the other at Centurion against South Africa earlier this month.
To surpass Australia and claim the top position, Rohit Sharma and his team must secure a 5-0 series victory against England. A whitewash could earn the hosts 60 points, elevating their tally to 86 (PCT of 79.6). Meanwhile, England finds itself in the seventh position with a mere 9 points, making this series against India crucial for the Three Lions.
