Ahead of the second and final test game of the two-game series against South Africa, Indian management arranged an optional net session in Cape Town. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Shardul Thakur, and Mukesh Kumar sweated in the practice session ahead of the must-win game.

However, in a concerning twist of fate, Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur suffered a massive injury scare while batting in the nets. Thakur was first in line to take throwdowns from India's batting coach, Vikram Rathore, in the nets.

Fifteen minutes into the session, a short-length throwdown from Rathore caught Shardul Tharkur off guard. He was late to reach and took a blow on his left shoulder. While the all-rounder screeched in pain, he continued with his batting practice for a while.

However, after the net session, the physios strapped Shardul's shoulder with an ice pack, and subsequently, Thakur opted out of the bowling session.

Shardul Thakur To Miss Cape Town Test?

With a mere four days to go to the Cape Town test, the all-rounder's injury scare could be a massive blow for the Indian side. Shardul Thakur, though underperformed in the first Test, remains a key all-round option for India in red ball format. The memory of Johannesburg's heroics is still etched in every cricket fan's memories.

That being said, the severity of Shardul Thakur's shoulder injury is still unknown. It could be a bruise or a rotator cuff strain. While the bruise will subside over a couple of days, a strain could rule him out for the foreseeable future.

Thus, the next few days are crucial in Thakur's recovery, and his participation in the Cape Town test is subject to his overall fitness standards.

The Cape Town test between India and South Africa will go on floors starting the 3rd of January, 2024. With India 0-1 in the two-game test series, the second and final matchup is a must-win contest for the visitors.
