In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to pull out of the upcoming Asia Cup. The tournament, which is held in every two years, is known for enthralling cricket fans with some iconic cricketing rivalries, including the high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash.

India To Withdraw From Asia Cup

As reported by Express Sports, the Indian team won't likely feature in the upcoming Asia Cup tournament due to the country's tense relationship with Pakistan

It's worth mentioning that the geopolitical tensions between the neighbouring South-Asian nations recently hit a new low, with Pakistan sponsoring the infamous Pahalgam terror attack and India retaliating with a series of airstrikes through the much-talked-about Operation Sindoor.

Also, given the fact that Pakistan's interior minister Mohsin Naqvi serves as the current ACC chairman, the BCCI considers withdrawing from the competition. As the report claims, the BCCI has even informed the ACC about its decision to opt out of the Asia Cup.

“The Indian team can’t play in a tournament that is organised by the ACC whose chief is a Pakistan minister. That’s the sentiment of the nation. We have verbally communicated to ACC about our withdrawal from the upcoming Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, and our future participation in their events too is on hold. We are in constant touch with the Indian government,” a source was quoted as saying by Express Sports.

Future Of Asia Cup In Jeopardy

The Asia Cup has been one of the most prestigious multi-national tournaments between the cricketing giants over the years.

However, considering most of the tournament sponsors are from India and the tournament will lose its essence without the electric India vs Pakistan affair, the Asian Cricket Council might not conduct the Asia Cup if the BCCI opts out of it.

In such a scenario, the future of the Asia Cup certainly looks bleak, as it has been pushed aside to the corner for the time being.
