When RR Won Bidding War Vs RCB To Purchase Maphaka
South African fast bowler Kwena Maphaka represented Mumbai Indians in the IPL after grabbing a million eyeballs through a string of impressive outings at the under-19 level. However, he was up for the grabs in the 2025 mega auction, with MI releasing him to the auction pool.
He had a base price of INR 75 lakhs, as RR raised the paddle for him. Soon, RCB joined the bidding war and held firm until the 1.4Cr mark. However, as the Royals bid for him at a price of 1.5 Crores, RCB stepped back, with Maphaka joining the inaugural champions for the 2025 season.
Maphaka Gets Mitch Owen Early To Send PBKS On Back Foot
Soon after Sanju Samson brought him into the attack, Kwena Maphaka lived up to his potential, dismissing Mitchell Owen for a duck. Known for his ability to operate at sheer pace, Maphaka has looked sublime with the ball, scalping one wicket for 16 runs in two overs.
However, despite losing three crucial wickets, the Kings have maintained a superb run rate. Riding on Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera's brisk cameo, the visitors have powered themselves to 83 for three in 8.4 overs as of writing.
