India Announce U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Squad; Niki Prasad To Lead

The BCCI Women’s Selection Committee has announced India’s squad for the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025. The tournament will be held in Malaysia from January 18 to February 2, 2025.

The Women's Selection Committee of the BCCI announced the squad to be led by Niki Prasad, while Sanika Chalke will be the vice-captain.

The squad has two wicketkeepers in Kamalini G and Bhavika Ahire, while three standby players, Nandhana S, Ira J and Anadi T, have also been included.

India’s Under-19 team comes into the tournament as strong contenders, having recently won the Women’s U19 T20 Asia Cup. In the final, they defeated Bangladesh by 41 runs. Key players G Trisha and Aayushi Shukla led the charge in that tournament, with Trisha scoring 159 runs and Shukla taking 10 wickets. Both players have been included in the World Cup squad.

Tournament Format and India’s Group

India, the defending champions, are placed in Group A with Malaysia (hosts), West Indies, and Sri Lanka. Their group stage matches will be played at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, starting with their opening game against West Indies on January 19, 2025.

Tournament Structure

  • Group Stage: Each of the four groups has four teams. Three teams from each group will progress to the Super Six stage.
  • Super Six: The 12 qualifying teams will be divided into two groups. Teams will carry forward points and Net Run Rate (NRR) from the group stage matches against other qualifying teams.
  • Knockouts: The top two teams from each Super Six group will advance to the semi-finals on January 31, followed by the final on February 2.
