IND vs WI | West Indian players to watch out for

The West Indian team faced a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Bangladesh team in their last ODI home series. Nicholas Pooran’s men were thoroughly outplayed in every department as the visitors whitewashed them in the three-match series. 

Immediately after the Tigers’ challenge, the West Indians will be up against an Indian team devoid of their prime members. After the recent defeat, the home team will look to redeem themselves in front of their home crowd. 

So, who can be the game changer for the home side?

Among the current West Indian batters, Shamarh Brooks and Shai Hope have a good track record against spin, among others recently. So, how a batter tackles the quality spinners of India will be a critical factor in the case of how good a batter performs in the match.

Let us look at the record of the two players against spin bowling in recent times.

The records are quite close, although Hope appears a bit more consistent against spin than Brooks. So now let us look at how the two players have recently fared against India. 

As we see, both the batters have not had a great time against India recently. But keeping the pitch conditions in mind, Shai Hope might just be the high scorer for West Indies in the match.

West Indies bowlers to watch out for: The Indians are known to be good players of spin. Moreover, the quality of spinners in the current West Indies squad will probably not trouble the Indian batters.

Among the current crop of West Indian bowlers, Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder might be able to trouble the Indian batters to some extent.

The reasons to choose these two bowlers are:

• The pitch has traditionally favoured the pace bowlers.

• These two bowlers have the height to exploit the Indian batters’ weakness against short balls.

So, among the two bowlers, it is evident that Holder has posed more threats to the Indian batters in recent times. Hence,  Jason Holder might turn out to be the pick of the bowlers for the West Indians in the match.
