Team India’s jersey sponsorship in trouble

The Indian team’s current sponsor, BYJU’s, is reported to owe a considerable amount to the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), while title sponsor Paytm requested the board to transfer their rights to a third party.

In April, the BCCI extended their contract with BYJU’s until the end of the ODI World Cup 2023, at a 10% increment.

However, The sponsorship is now in a state of bother as it is reported that the online tutoring firm allegedly owes BCCI INR 86.21 in dues.

The BCCI Apex Council discussed the issue on Thursday (July 21).

“As of today, BYJU’s owes dues of INR 86.21 crore to the Board,” a BCCI source told PTI after the meeting.

However, BYJU’s spokesperson told PTI:

“We have extended the contract with the BCCI but it is not yet signed. After the contract signing is done, the payments will happen as per the contractual payment terms. So there are no dues pending from our side.”
