Debutant Washington Sundar takes fifer for Lancashire

Washington Sundar made his presence felt as he went on to take five wickets for Lancashire in his debut English County game. The all-rounder made a successful return to red-ball cricket, having missed a lot of outings owing to his hand injury in July 2021.

The 22-year-old will return to red-ball cricket with his upcoming matches at the English County. Therefore, the English County Championship is so important to him, and he created an impression in the opening game against Northamptonshire with a fifer.

The Indian spin all-rounder, who can bat powerfully lower down the order, took four wickets on the first day of this match. On Thursday (July 21), he returned and took one more wicket against Northamptonshire to complete his Fifer.

On Day 1 (July 20), he claimed the wickets of Will Young, Rob Keogh, Ryan Rickleton, and Tom Taylor. He then dismissed Northamptonshire's leading run-getter, Lewis McManus, to finish with a five-wicket haul. He recorded stunning statistics of 5/76 to complete the inning.

In an interview with Club's official YouTube channel, Washington Sundar said that, "I remember playing with my Playstation and choosing Lancashire against most of the domestic teams here. It is great to be here and playing for Lancashire."

With the Fifer in the first match, Washington Sundar has made a strong comeback to red-ball cricket, just like Indian Pacer Navdeep Saini.
