Ben Stokes has been working hard on his bowling on the sidelines of each of the Test matches played on the tour of India, and Wednesday's (February 21) England practice session was no different for the skipper, who could be making a return to the bowling mark with the Ranchi Test starting Friday. 

The England captain has been reduced to a specialist batter on the field since his comeback from a successful knee surgery after the ICC World Cup 2023 in India. Off the field, however, the experienced cricketer has been gradually regaining his best self as a bowler and all-round player of great influence and impact he is renowned for being. 

In Stokes's bowling absence, England have missed their perennial goldern arm, who has a great knack of providing his team timely and critical breakthroughs when the chips are down. In conditions in India, he can be England's third seamer without the visitors compromising on their balance.


Ben Stokes To Bowl In Ranchi Test?

As per a OneCricket source present at the venue, Stokes was seen rolling his arms over in the nets two days before the first ball in the Ranchi Test, once again testing his recovery and rehab as a medium-fast bowler after going through the knife. 

Stokes has been wary of bowling in the match for England after assessing the risk of him worsening his knee issue or facing a recurring injury. 

But that could change in the fourth Test of the series, especially with the visitors desperate to bounce back after losing the previous Test in Rajkot. 

Under his captaincy, Stokes led England to only their fifth win on Indian shores since 2006 in Hyderabad and took a 1-0 lead to put the pressure entirely on their understrength rivals, missing multiple key, experienced players. The five-Test series is nicely posed, with India leading 2-1.
