India’s five-match T20I series against Australia, set to be played following the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup, will likely see a shift in venues for the final two fixtures. As per recent reports, the VCA Stadium in Nagpur, also the venue for the fourth T20I, is currently facing a renovation hurdle owing to a drainage issue.

VCA CEO gives update on possible venue change

Despite contrasting rumors, the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) CEO Dastoor Farokh recently claimed that the renovation work undergoing at the moment is expected to be finished within the next few days. He also added that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet issued any confirmation about a possible venue change, and the VCA Stadium in Nagpur is still listed as a host of India’s fourth T20I against Australia on the official website.

While speaking with CricketNext, Farokh said:

“There is a bit of renovation work undertaken over the north stand area where there was a drainage issue. It will be finished in the next 3-4 days. However, we have received no confirmation from BCCI about the venue change. You can also check the BCCI website, and it says the 4th T20I is here in Nagpur.”

Regardless, the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association (CSCS) has stated that they are prepared to host the game in Raipur’s Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium instead if the match is taken away from the Vidarbha Cricket Association.

The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, meanwhile, is slated to host the final match of the series on December 3. As it turned out, the day also coincides with the counting of election votes in Telangana, tendering it difficult for the police authorities to provide match security at the stadium.

Owing to the upcoming elections, the match will likely be shifted to Bengaluru, however, no official confirmation regarding a possible change has been made yet by the BCCI.

The series itself will commence on November 23 at the Dr. Y. S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The subsequent two fixtures will be played on November 26 and November 28 in Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati respectively.
