BCCI announced India's 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup mega event. The exclusion of CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has irked the Yellow Army fans as they lashed out at the selection committee for purposely ignoring his stats.

After much wait, the BCCI selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar announced India's T20 World Cup squad earlier today after a detailed discussion with apex body secretary Jay Shah, captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid. 

However, a few tough exclusions ticked the wrong nerve of fans on the internet. Ruturaj Gaikwad, currently leading CSK in IPL, missed out as regular players Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill made the cut as openers. 

Fans react to Gaikwad's non-selection

But fans were puzzled and outraged by his exclusion, as his stats appear much better than Jaiswal's in the T20 format. 

In 19 T20Is, Gaikwad scored 500 runs at a 140.06 strike rate, including a century he scored against Australia.

He is also the second-highest run-scorer in the current IPL 2024 season, and fans believe he's better at adapting to USA/West Indies conditions.

The outraged fans lashed out at BCCI on Twitter and accused them of showing bias towards Jaiswal and Gill in the influence of their respective PR.





Yashasvi Jaiswal's recent heroics in the five-game Test series against England is believed to be a major factor behind his selection.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill is a regular face across all formats for India, and hence, his experience likely promoted his inclusion in the reserves of India's T20 World Cup squad.
