Including Broad and Anderson in overseas tours would be a mistake: Ian Chappell

England's bowling duo James Anderson and Stuart Broad continue to rule the roost in Test cricket. Both Stuart and Anderson were the Three Lions' first and second-highest wicket-takers in their 2022 season at home, claiming 29 and 27 wickets, respectively across seven and six Tests.

Collectively, the pair have scalped 944 in 126 Tests. The England Test head coach recently confirmed that both are in contention to feature in the upcoming The Ashes 2023 beginning June 16.

However, former Australia captain Ian Chappell has warned England team management to not include the pair in their overseas tours going ahead. Chappell writing in his column for ESPNcricinfo, also lauded Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum for their combined success as well.

"England were certainly unlucky in Australia because they were deprived of some first-choice fast bowlers through injury. However, it’s patently clear that selecting the ageing Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad in the same team anywhere but in England is a mistake."

"It’s acceptable, but not ideal, to select a right-arm seam attack in England because it can suit the pitch and surrounding conditions,"

Anderson might play England's upcoming Test series in Pakistan in December, while Broad is all set give the three-match series a miss due to personal issue.
