India's Asia Cup 2025 has created a lot of buzz in the Indian cricketing circles, and one of the hot topics of discussion is the exclusion of Shreyas Iyer. Now, Shreyas Iyer's IPL 2025 franchise, Punjab Kings, has come up with a cryptic social media post.

Punjab Kings Take Stand For Captain Shreyas Iyer

The post has Shreyas Iyer standing as a leader with the caption, "Imma do my own thing". It signifies that the franchise wants to tell the power holders that Shreyas Iyer will continue to work hard and fight for his spot. The post also has a captain with reference of Spiderman's famous dialogue - 'With Great Power…. (Comes Great Responsibility).

The cricketer has been in great form in the last couple of years and has done well both as a captain and a batter across formats in different tournaments. In the 2025 IPL season, Shreyas Iyer scored 604 runs at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175.07. He was also charismatic as a leader and took Punjab Kings to the final of IPL after 11 long years, and it was believed that he would be rewarded in the Indian setup, too.

Shreyas's Exclusion Brings Criticism For Head Coach

Shreyas Iyer last played a T20I match for India in 2023, but there were expectations that he would be selected in the Asia Cup 2025 squad. However, it did not happen, and the batter is not even in the reserves list of players for the Asia Cup. Thus, it has brought a lot of criticism for the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar. Head Coach Gautam Gambhir has also come under a lot of fire for being partisan, and BCCI as a whole has been blamed for favouritism in selection.

Thus, the saga around Shreyas Iyer's non-selection does not seem to end anytime soon. Various former cricketers have also targeted Gambhir and Agarkar, and it would be interesting to see how Shreyas Iyer's career shapes up in future.
